COVID-19 and Campus Research

Updated May 3, 2021

Caltech is beginning a phased increase of on-campus research activity to a density of 50 percent (from 25 percent). The increase in density will be supported by access to additional facilities and services, including expanded athletic and recreational opportunities.

All research at Caltech must comply with general on-campus use and research requirements related to COVID-19 as outlined in Caltech's "Going to Campus" page.

For now and the foreseeable future, Caltech employees who can work remotely are asked to continue to do so.

Human Subjects Research:

All researchers with human subjects protocols that require in-person recruitment and/or testing at Caltech will need to request special review by, and obtain approval from, the Caltech IRB prior to resuming human subjects research after April 12, 2021. This guidance will remain in place until further notice in light of the continuing COVID-19 pandemic.

For detailed instructions, please read the IRB memo, "Resuming On-Campus Human Subjects Research."
